Pivot 1.30 RC 2..

12:19 Spam!

We've just released a new version of Pivot, which comes in three flavours:

  • Full Release: For when you're setting up a new version of Pivot from scratch
  • Updater for 1.xx: If you're running any pivot 1.xx version, you can use this updater.
  • Updater for 1.30RC: This is the smallest file, but it'll only work if you're currently running Pivot 1.30RC

The plan at the time of the release of 1.30 RC was to tidy up a few things and get 1.30 Final out to the community as quickly as possible. In the following weeks we realized that aside from bug fixes and tweaks, there were some features that really needed to be added to 1.30 before we could release it as a 'final' release.

Several improvements have been made but by far the biggest improvement is the addition of several tools to prevent and remove spam from your weblogs. These tools are bundled under a new section, 'Spam Protection' in Pivot. Some tools are new and some have been ported from the Pivot Blacklist to be a part of the Pivot core:

  • The new 'Spam Washer' tool, to search for spam and delete all of the matches.
  • A centralized version of the 'Blocked Phrases' tool, in addition to the local version
  • An improved version of Spamquiz;
  • An improved version of HashCash;
  • An improved version of Hardened Trackbacks;
  • It's easier to remove spam with one click, and instantly report it to us, so we can include it in aforementioned global Blocked Phrases list.
  • Spam log: See how effective it is! Whee!
When you've updated your version of Pivot to 1.30RC2, you'll find these options under 'Spam Protection', directly linked from the overview page.

After the jump there's some more things to note when you're upgrading:

Basically the upgrade is just 'extract the zip and upload all files to your pivot install'. Just make sure that any new (if any) items in your pivot/db/ folder are chmodded correctly.

We've included a new _sub_commentform template. If you have not changed your commentform template yourself, we suggest you replace your current one with the new one. Just rename the _sub_commentform_new.html file from the zip to _sub_commentform.html. These are the changes::

  • it contains the [[spamquiz]] tag.
  • it contains added accessibility for most input fields
  • after submitting a comment, you can let the page jump to the comment itself, instead of to the start of the comments section. To do this, replace 'submit.php#message' with 'submit.php#lastcomment'

If you don't want to overwrite your current _sub_commentform template, you should add these improvements yourself.

Since we've incorporated the most important features from the Pivot Blacklist, the original Blacklist extension will *not* work anymore. Just don't add the Blacklist's activation code to submit.php, and you'll be fine. You can safely remove the extensions/blacklist/ folder, and the blacklist's snippets from extensions/snippets/ (osa, spamquiz, htrackback and (multiple) hashcash.)

If you used to use the blacklist before, clean up your templates:
- Remove [[hashcash_head]] from the entrypage template and all the hashcash tags from _sub_commentform.html;
- Use [[tracklink]] instead of [[htrackback]] in your entrypage template.

If your css file still contains some old rules from before Pivot 1.30, you might want to replace:

label { visibility:hidden; display:none; }
legend { visibility:hidden; display:none; }
fieldset { border:0; padding:0; margin:0; }

with:

.pivot-search label, .pivot-search-result label { visibility:hidden; display:none; }
.pivot-search legend, .pivot-search-result legend { visibility:hidden; display:none; }
.pivot-search fieldset, .pivot-search-result fieldset { border:0; padding:0; margin:0; }

That's it! We hope you like the new version!

hello there, maybe I did something wrong but I just upgraded from 1.3 beta 3 and I was ask for lamer_protection.php that was missing.
Downloaded the full version and uploaded it, please fix it.

Erik: Did you use the 1xx updater? If not, you should use that one.. The lamer_protection.php is in that one, i’m sure..

I love you, Pivot!

Thanks man, I’ll update it as soon as I can and I’m looking forward to see how the integrated anti-spamsection works. In other words: “A very nice website !! Very well Done !!!” (h)

Looking great!! Love the spamtools!!

Quote:
“- Remove hashcash_head from the entrypage template and all the hashcash tags from _sub_commentform.html;”
Does that mean that HashCash is enabled by default? Or do I have to (re) activate it in some kind of way?

@ bob. I used the one in the full version and it seems to work including the kick ass spamtools, I hade the latest beta installed so I thought I could use the smallest update, was I wrong?

Thank you very much! It’s awesome. I just keep looking at my spam-log and can’t stop smiling!! I also like the new template..what the hell..I like it ALL!

Just FYI – I had 1.30RC installed and working fine, I dl’d the updater for 1.30RC and it did not make any apparent changes, so I dl’d the updater for 1.xx and not it is working.

Thanks you much.

Erik: Yes, you had to use the 1.xx one. the 1.30RC updater is really only for 1.30RC. ;-)

Fug: I don’t quite understand.. Is there a problem?

Yes,

Now that I have it updated to 1.30RC2, when going to my site from a different website it has the following errors:

Notice: Undefined index: HTTP_REFERER in C:\guns\blog\Weblog\pivot\first_defense.php on line 37

Notice: Undefined index: host in C:\guns\blog\Weblog\pivot\first_defense.php on line 41

Notice: Undefined index: host in C:\guns\blog\Weblog\pivot\first_defense.php on line 43

and I can’t seem to get it fixed. I have rebuilt everything several times. if I am on my site and click on an internal link it works but from another site (e.g. follow the link ti my site) I have the above issue.

I dont know what to do, I have been rock solid for awhile and now broke twice in one day.

I restored from my previous backup earlier today. I will just try upgading again after some sleep. As always my thanks for a great product and great support. Thanks

Please post problems or support requests to the Support Forum. Thanks!

Excellent release! Damn, such an improvement. Actually A LOT of improvements, and such an surprise as well! I didn’t expect 1.3x to contain all these things already. I noticed a lot of small fixes as well (e.g. index is rebuilt automatically after deleting a comment).

Bob and the rest of the team, my compliments. :)

One word! Wow and keep up the good work!

great update!!!

Love the spamtools (spamquiz with set days to show in posts)

Got only one issue with moblogs, but already posted the question in the forum!!

Fantastic!! It was a breeze to update and add the spamquiz. I had a coworker answer it wrong and got a kick out of the page he was directed to.

Great stuff, great job! I’m loving Pivot and appreciate everything that everybody does for and with it.

yes, I’m clean again! Spam washer is great and my spam log looks quite impressive (in just 3 days).

I’m still running Rippersnapper 1.30 but will update shortly. Before I do so, given that there are so many new anti-spam features, is installing i-Marco’s pivot-blacklist still recommended?

I had some problems with the new spam tool… it includes the domain “blogspot” in the ‘ignored domain’ feature… but ‘blogspot’ is a blog platform quite used in Italy… so people were not able to reply anymore….

I recently started using this release and I’ve noticed that I can no longer include more than one RSS feed in my templates using the rss:... tag. The first feed always displays fine but any appearing after the first do not get displayed.

Is anyone else having this problem?

And suddenly no more spam comments. I started to get used to the daily compliments. However, the new Pivot release is ablsolutely great in preventing all kinds of spam attacks.Thanks!
Michiel

Just updated my version and I must say it is superb! Now patching the problems but good-bye spammers hehehe. That’s what we needed it.

Xretro.com community thanks Pivot team.

I am waiting for 1.30, though. How long will it take? ;)

Hi,

great! I only have one problem with this new version… all comments on my weblog are shown in the wrong order. Normally the first comment in the list is the newest comment, but now the first comment is an older… strange :-D

Is there somebody else who also has this problem?

Thanks in advance!
Cliff

thank you thank you thank you!

I’m also having this little nuisance… When I upload an image and try to make an icon, Pivot disconnets itself and sends me to the login page.

Please use the support forum for support related issues. Thanks!

@geekus: 1.30 is expected quite soon. Final testing is underway!

Hi, the upgrade process just worked SUPERB...!!!

One problem arises AFTER the installation (did NOT see that before). I get the message:“WYSIWIG editor doesn’t work on your computer” and therefore I can’t post new articles on my own weblog.

What could’ve gone wrong…? There’s nothing on the PC itself that changed.

Thanx for your thoughts,
Marc

Hi,
Is 1.30 final and onward going to have the MySql database option included, as the roadmap says?
Cheers.

Again, with upgrading I completely messed-up my site, while not doing anything different than following the instructions. Now, there seems to be a problem with pvlib.php:

Warning: file(/home/jovindus/domains/jovindus.nl/public_html/weblog2/pivot/pv_cfg_settings.php): failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/jovindus/domains/jovindus.nl/public_html/weblog2/pivot/pvlib.php on line 31

Warning: Invalid argument supplied for foreach() in /home/jovindus/domains/jovindus.nl/public_html/weblog2/pivot/pvlib.php on line 33

Also, the configfile went missing, so I uploaded an old one, resulting in a halt at the administrator setup. I get really annoyed from it! What can I do to fix this?

it’s even worse; the whole site has been deleted. and only the update is installed. This happened already at the update from RC130.. f*ck

Svan, please post to the support forum for help. Thanks.

OK, thanks Griswald.

I will wait for it, then.

But… The ‘Rebuild Frontpage’ does not make a file called ‘index.php’, but it says: Finished!

What’s wrong? (No chmodding.)

Just one word: fixed.

Yes! Great. I switched from the version 1.24 to 1.30 without any problems. I have two weblogs with hundreds of spam entries. It was awful!!! And now they all are gone – with 1.30!!! And all the the new spams were blocked from the tool. Great, great, great! Theo

On IIS + PHP5 I get the following error when I navigate to pivot for the first time.
Parse error: parse error, unexpected $end in d:\www\mydomain.tld\www\weblog\pivot\pv_core.php on line 1075

On Apache + PHP5 I get the following error when I navigate to pivot for the first time. On reload the error disappears.
Notice: Undefined index: SCRIPT_URI in D:\inetpub\wwwroot\pivot\pivot\pvlib.php on line 49

Please post to the Pivot Support Forum.

very nice Version!

Thanks for adding this Spam Protection set. Spam washer really saved my day since there were about 900 spam comments from the miserable p*k*r sites. (I bet I can’t use that word here :-). The Spam Quiz is working great too, and it’s fun to check the log of blocked spam grow.
Time for another donation!

Conversion from 1.24 to 1.30 RC2 complete about 10 minutes ago…. so far so good plus an extra wow! :-)

Two big thumbs up, great work!
