Most weblog tools provide import scripts so people can easily switch to the tool - Pivot does this too. However, not all to provides export scripts so people can easily switch from the tool. This is (probably) not because the tool providers want to lock people in, but mostly because they don't have the resources to do it.
The Pivot developers have decided to provide at least one export script, to prove that they don't want to lock people in. The Movable Type (MT) import format was chosen because it is ubiquitous - all weblog tools has import scripts for that format. This means that by supporting this format, a Pivot users can later choose to switch to any weblog tool.
Get export_genericmt.php and put it in the pivot folder. Hit Export! and you're done. Don't forget to remove the export_genericmt.php file when you are done exporting.
