Pivot 1.40.5..

We've just released Pivot 1.40.5, as a recommended maintenance release for all users of Pivot. This release fixes several bugs and features a few minor improvements for users of Pivot 1.40. For full details see the Changelog. For instructions on how to install or upgrade, please see the details after the jump.

This version comes in three flavors:

Pivot 1.40.5 Full - The full version
Pivot 1.40.5 updater for 1.40 RC (Use this for upgrading Pivot 1.40RC, 1.40.0 through 1.40.4)
Pivot 1.40.5 updater for other versions (For upgrading any other Pivot 1.x version)

So, if you want to set up a new install, use the Full version and read here on how to get started. If you're running a version between 1.0 and 1.40.4, you can get the appropriate updater.

Extract the files on your computer.
Make a backup of your website. (really)
Upload all the files overwriting the ones already present.
Download the upgradechecks tool, unzip it and upload to your pivot folder.
Open pivot/upgradechecks.php in your browser and see if you have to make any changes.
Log in to your Pivot, and do the following:
- Rebuild the index.
- Go to Administration » Weblogs, and click through your weblog so, the weblog configuration is updated.
- Make sure [[thickbox:head]] is in the -section of your templates, if you want to use the thickbox popups.
- Rebuild all pages.
Enjoy your brand-new Pivot!

Alternatively you can use our Pivot Setup script, which takes care of the installation/upgrading. Read about it here: Pivot Setup.

Tip: We've heard about people (mainly on OSX) who've had their FTP programs wipe the folders clean before uploading. Make sure that doesn't happen to you by reading this forum thread.

Pivot X2.0 alpha 1..

We've released the first alpha of PivotX 2.0. Read all about it on it's own website at PivotX.net.

After long months of blood, sweat and tears, it's finally ready for public release: PivotX 2.0 alpha 1. If you're not up to speed on the cool things it can do, please check out the page with the feature overview(with video), or skip directly to the screenshots.

Pivot 1.40.4..

We've just released Pivot 1.40.4, another update to Pivot 1.40, to address some minor bugfixes that have been fixed recently. One of the fixed bugs is a security issue (XSS) on the public-side related to comment-previews, which means that we recommend that all users upgrade to this version. And yes, we're still working on Pivot 2.0. The first publicly available alpha version is taking a bit longer than we hoped. Who could've guessed that making the best weblog tool ever would be so much work?!

As you know, we're working hard on the new version of Pivot, which will be a major rewrite of the entire codebase. Besides a clean and transparent codebase and tons of new features, there's also a new administration interface. So, it's a pleasure to show you the first screenshots of what it will look like. You'll find them here.

Even though it's only two weeks ago that I said that 1.40.2 would likely be the last release in the 1.40 branch, we still decided that we would need another maintenance release. So, we've just released Pivot 1.40.3. This update contains some minor bugfixes that were discovered after the release of 1.40.2. For full details see the Changelog. In the meantime we're still hard at work on version 2.0. The day that we can publicly show you the first glimpses of our brand new product is getting closer and closer, so check back here often.

We've just released Pivot 1.40.2. This release contains a bunch of minor bugfixes and tweaks. For full details see the Changelog. For instructions on how to install or upgrade, please see the details after the jump.

If no security issues or serious bugs are discovered, version 1.40.2 will be the last release in the 1.x series. We're currently hard at work on version 2.0, which is almost completely re-written from scratch. It's a bit too early to say when there will be a first public release, but be sure to check back here in the coming weeks, where we'll start showing off the new features and functions.

Scheduled Site Outage

The data center where pivotlog.net is hosted has just made us aware that a scheduled power outage is currently planned for Sunday, February 25, 2007 at 00:01 PST (08:01 GMT) and is expected to last three hours. The downtime is due to a total power shutdown in the building housing the data center required to make repairs to a Phase C Conductor Cable on one of the UPS units as it has been compromised to the point that immediate action to repair it is necessary or a ground fault will occur to the building systems.

All website and email services will be affected during this time. We apologize for an inconvenience this outage may cause and thank you for your patience and understanding.

Update: The scheduled maintenance has been completed. Thank you for your patience.

Pivot 1.40 released!

We've released Pivot 1.40, just in time for the holidays! Merry X-mas, everybody!

In case you haven't been following the Beta versions for this release, the major things that are new in this version are:

We've added Tagging functionality. (tagclouds, tagpages, tags for each entry)
We have a very fancy new Image Cropping Tool.
Major improvements to the Registered Visitors functionality.
We have a new set of default templates.
You can format the output of the search results to your liking.
Popups now use Thickbox to display images.
Comment Moderation (If you turn this on, new comments will not show up on your weblog until you’ve approved them. You can enable this from Administration>Configuration)
Greatly improved Metaweblog API support (so you can post to your Pivot log from other applications)
A new ‘Registered Visitors’ administration screen, so you can disable, verify and delete them.
The pages for Visitor Registration, Pivot errors and ‘self registration’ are now themeable.
And lots more smaller enhancements and bugfixes. See our changelog.

Pivot Sponsors Local Youth

Pivotlog.net has sponsored a local youth, Kyle Gordon! Kyle is a 9 year old goaltender for the Western Valley Atom AAA Spartans hockey team. When asked what he wanted to do when he grows up Kyle told us, “I want to be an NHL goaltender!”. Having played hockey since 2002 we are sure that Kyle is well on his way to his dream and wish him nothing but success. Kyle’s favorite hockey team is the Boston Bruins and his favorite player, Patrick Roy.
